Who am I?
Of the many roles I have had in my lifetime, being a husband and father has taught me the most about the centrality of relationships in all that we do.
Student
I am the oldest of three boys. Our mother taught elementary school and our father was the pastor in our local church. I attended public schools in Northern California from Kindergarten through college and am forever grateful for the many opportunities my upbringing has provided
Teacher
I taught high school for over 20 years. During that time, I learned that by investing time cultivating a relationship with each student, I could build the trust necessary to help the student be successful.
Administrator
As a high school principal, I focused on creating a culture for success not only for students, but also for our entire staff, parents and community. When we were all engaged in the school, it was easier to support academic and social success for every student.
Coach
My experience coaching students in athletics, academic and social clubs is a reminder about the joy and success that is possible when people belong and work with others for a common purpose. Belonging and purpose continues to be a central component in all of my work.
Father & Husband
Maria and I have raised two children. In many ways being a father has taught me some of the most important lessons about the impact of culture on student success. Watching my kids highly engaged with a particular teacher, activity or environment made clear that powerful connection.
